POKHARA: The Dr. Mani Lal Bhaumik International Foundation (India) and BATAS Foundation (Nepal) have announced a humanitarian collaboration to support the long-term rehabilitation and education of children and families affected by recent floods and natural disasters in Nepal.
Under the initiative, the two organizations have committed to providing support for higher education to more than 100 children who lost their parents in the disasters.
The initiative aims to go beyond immediate relief and rescue efforts by focusing on the long-term education, self-reliance and future of children who have been pushed into vulnerable economic and social conditions following the disasters, according to a press release issued by the organizations.
The organizations said affected families continue to face challenges even after floodwaters recede, including the loss of livelihoods, homes and property, disruption of income sources and interruption of children’s education.
They said ensuring continuity of education is particularly challenging for children who have lost their parents, as financial hardship could force them to abandon school or higher education.
The educational support programme is intended to provide long-term assistance to more than 100 disaster-affected children and help them continue their educational journeys without having to compromise their education and future due to the circumstances created by the disasters.
The organizations said the programme goes beyond providing scholarships and is designed as a long-term humanitarian investment aimed at restoring confidence, opportunities and hope among disaster-affected children.
They also emphasized the role of education in post-disaster rehabilitation, saying continued educational support can equip children with knowledge and skills while fostering self-confidence, self-reliance and the capacity to contribute to their communities in the future.
