Nepali Congress and UML agree on immediate political appointments in Sudurpaschim Province

KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition’s Nepali Congress and UML have reached an agreement to make immediate political appointments to posts whose terms are about to expire in the Sudurpaschim Province.

In a meeting held at the official residence of Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah, the provincial-level political machinery of the ruling coalition decided to fill the vacant posts on the basis of share-sharing between the coalition partners.

The blueprint for the appointments will be prepared by Chief Minister Shah and UML parliamentary party leader Rajendra Singh Rawal, who is also a former chief minister.

The meeting was chaired by Nepali Congress Sudurpaschim President Bir Bahadur Balayer and attended by top provincial leaders from both parties, including UML central secretary and Sudurpaschim in-charge Lekhraj Bhatta, UML provincial chair Krishna Prasad Jaishi, and other prominent leaders.

Several key positions are nearing the end of their terms, including chairmen of provincial hospitals, as well as posts in the Provincial Sports Council, Youth Council, Tourism Development Board, and Pragya Pratishthan.

The Nepali Congress and UML have agreed to allocate these positions based on consensus to avoid conflicts within the coalition.

UML Province Chair Krishna Prasad Jaishi stated that the meeting also focused on enhancing the efficiency of the provincial government’s work. In addition, discussions were held on preparing the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, emphasizing the expectations and priorities of the people.

Speaking at the meeting, Nepali Congress Province President Bir Bahadur Balayer stressed that any issues arising during government operations should be resolved through the mechanism meeting. He also advocated for the abolition of the Parliament Development Fund.
