KATHMANDU: A 201-member celebration committee has been formed under the coordination of Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey to oversee the preparations for the Mahashivaratri festival in the Pashupatinath area.

The committee was established during a meeting of the council chaired by Minister Pandey, who also serves as the chairman of the Pashupati Area Development Trust Board of Directors.

Additionally, nine thematic sub-committees have been formed under the main committee to facilitate various aspects of the festival’s organization.

According to Dr Milan Kumar Thapa, member secretary of the trust, preparations have already begun, including painting, mural artwork, and lighting management in the Pashupati area.

This year’s Mahashivaratri festival falls on February 26, and thousands of devotees are expected to gather for the grand celebrations.
