One arrested with stolen Rs 1.23 million



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man in possession of stolen cash totaling Rs 1,023,500. Superintendent of Police and spokesperson of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, identified the suspect as 28-year-old Deepak Gajurel, a resident of Belkot Municipality-9, Nuwakot, who is currently living in Thamel, Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

According to police, the stolen cash and various items were recovered from Rajshree Finance in Sinamangal and from the office of Nepal Holiday Trek and Travels, located on the first floor of Hotel Lotus Grand in Sohrakhutte, Kathmandu-16.

Spokesperson Bhattarai stated that further investigation is underway after the Kathmandu District Court granted a five-day extension of Gajurel’s remand today.

He added that 22 cases had been previously registered against Gajurel, including cooperative theft, theft, drug-related offenses, and indecent behavior. Gajurel had reportedly escaped from Jagannath Deol Central Jail during the protests on September 8 and 9.

The recovered items included a brown bag with gold lettering, a green hoodie worn during the theft, a pair of gloves labeled “Sport,” two silver-colored metal-looking paellas, a Canon camera, hard drives labeled “Nexgen” and “Bid Elements,” a register, citizenship documents, various other papers, and a bank check.
