Trump says US could exit Iran within weeks regardless of deal

WASHIGNTON DC: US President Donald Trump has said the United States will withdraw from Iran within “two to three weeks,” regardless of whether a deal is reached, once it is confident that Tehran cannot develop a nuclear weapon for years.

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump claimed Iran is “eager” to strike an agreement but stressed that any potential deal would not affect Washington’s timeline.

Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran is willing to end the conflict, provided there are guarantees that hostilities will not resume, BBC reported.

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s health ministry reported that at least seven people were killed in Israeli strikes, while the Israeli military said it had targeted a Hezbollah commander and another senior figure in separate attacks in Beirut.

Trump also criticized the UK and other allies, urging them to secure their own oil supplies from the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the US would no longer provide support. Analysts note that no country, including the United States, has yet moved to directly challenge Iran’s control over the strategic waterway.

Trump is expected to deliver a national address on Wednesday night, where he will provide what he described as an “important update” on Iran.
