Election Commission: All parties ready for upcoming polls, including those that once boycotted elections

Prime Minister Sushila Karki held a meeting with officials of the Election Commission on Wednesday to discuss preparations for the upcoming elections. A team comprising Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, Commissioners Janaki Tuladhar and Sagun Shamsher Rana, along with other senior officials, met with the Prime Minister at her office. During the discussion, the commission informed that over 60 percent of election-related preparations have been completed and expressed confidence that the elections scheduled for March 5 can be conducted as planned.

SC seeks written response on validity of Chief Minister Yadav’s appointment

The Supreme Court has issued a show cause order, seeking a written response regarding the legality of Madhesh Province Chief Minister Saroj Yadav’s appointment. A single bench of Justice Nityananda Pandey on Wednesday directed Chief Minister Yadav to submit his written response through the Office of the Attorney General within 15 days. The order was issued during the preliminary hearing of a writ petition filed by Krishna Prasad Yadav and 74 other provincial assembly members challenging Yadav’s appointment. The court has also summoned both parties for a hearing on November 16.

Nepali Communist Party and Matrubhumi Jagaran Abhiyan sign seven-point unification agreement

The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and the Matrubhumi Jagaran Abhiyan Nepal have signed a seven-point agreement paving the way for organizational unification. The agreement, signed on Wednesday, aims to build a strong and dynamic party guided by patriotism and socialism. It was signed by NCP Coordinators Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Matrubhumi Jagaran Abhiyan Coordinator Dr. Bhim Rawal. According to the agreement, both sides have pledged to safeguard Nepal’s national sovereignty, unity, independence, integrity, and self-respect, while promoting a politics and economy free from foreign interference.

Bhim Rawal says unification with NCP heals ‘old wounds’ of party split

Dr. Bhim Rawal, the founder of Matri Bhumi Jagaran Abhiyan, Nepal, has said that the organizational unification with the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has helped heal the wounds of the party’s past division. Speaking after signing the agreement on party unification, Rawal said, “When the then NCP was split by those pursuing vested interests, I left this place with a heavy heart. Today, returning to this same platform and engaging in ideological dialogue with the same comrades feels like applying balm to the painful wounds of separation.”

Prachanda claims all UML leaders will eventually join Nepali Communist Party

Coordinator of the newly formed Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has claimed that all leaders of the CPN-UML will eventually leave the party and join the new NCP. Speaking briefly with reporters at the party’s central office in Parisdanda on Wednesday, Dahal said UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli only talks big and that the UML is gradually losing its leadership base.

Durga Prasai-led group submits 27-point demand to govt; urged to contest elections

The group led by Durga Prasai, which recently announced protests against the interim government, has submitted a 27-point demand to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Prasai’s team from the “Rashtra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti tatha Nagarik Bachau Maha Abhiyan” presented the demand letter to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Wednesday. After receiving the list of demands, Minister Aryal advised Prasai to register a political party and participate in the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5. Although Prasai did not personally visit Singha Durbar, his representatives submitted the memorandum to the Home Ministry.

Nepali Communist Party calls UML’s ‘homecoming campaign’ a political stunt

The newly unified Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has dismissed the CPN-UML’s recent homecoming campaign as a mere political stunt. Speaking at a welcoming program in Kathmandu on Wednesday, where former UML Vice Chairman Dr. Bhim Rawal officially joined the unified party, leader Prakash Jwala criticized UML’s campaign as a staged act.

Seven-party alliance continues protests in Janakpurdham against Madhesh Province government

Seven political parties continued their protests on Wednesday against the formation of the Madhesh Province government, alleging that it was formed unconstitutionally. Demonstrators gathered in front of the Madhesh Bhawan demanding the dismissal of Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav. Raising slogans against Yadav’s appointment, the protesters, led by the seven-party alliance, insisted that the Chief Minister’s appointment was illegal and must be revoked. Ram Ashish Yadav, Chief Coordinator of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) in Madhesh Province, said their protest was directed against the unconstitutional actions of the Province Head.

Sudan Gurung calls Gen-Z groups for strategy meeting ahead of elections

Sudan Gurung, coordinator of The Council of Gen-Z, has called leaders of three Gen-Z groups for a joint meeting on Wednesday to discuss their strategy ahead of the upcoming elections. Leaders from Gen-Z Movement Alliance and Gen-Z Front, along with Gurung’s own group, will participate in the meeting. The agenda includes deciding whether the Gen-Z groups will register as separate political parties or unite under a single banner.

Over 209,000 new voters added, 21 new political parties register ahead of election

The Election Commission (EC) has recorded over 209,000 new voters and 21 new political parties have applied for registration following the announcement of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026. According to EC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, 122,740 men, 86,785 women, and 27 others have been added to the voter list so far. On November 11 alone, 13,066 men, 10,567 women, and five others were registered. The voter registration and updating process is ongoing across all seven provinces and 70 district election offices from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm daily and will continue until November 16.

Govt, local stakeholders reach agreement to resolve Melamchi project dispute

The long-standing dispute surrounding the Melamchi Water Supply Project has been resolved, at least temporarily, following a late-night agreement reached on Tuesday at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation. According to the agreement, issues related to water diversion and local grievances have been settled through consensus among government representatives, affected local bodies, and various stakeholders, including flood victims’ committees and vendors.

According to the ministry, the data will be collected through the Center for Education and Human Resource Development, which has been instructed to gather details on land registered under the names of community schools and learning centers, their current status, and any existing disputes or encroachments.

Hyatt Regency Kathmandu lays off all staff citing financial strain after Gen-Z protest damage

The Hyatt Regency Kathmandu has announced the layoff of all its employees, citing severe financial losses following the Gen-Z movement-related unrest. In a statement issued by General Manager Ashish Kumar, the hotel said it has decided to terminate 133 employees in accordance with Section 145 of the Labor Act, 2017. The decision will take effect from December 8. The statement added that the move will be implemented within 30 days of the notice’s publication.

Hearing scheduled in Supreme Court on Madhesh CM Saroj Yadav’s appointment challenge

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on the writ petition challenging the appointment of Madhesh Province’s newly appointed Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav. The case will be heard in the bench of Justice Nityananda Pandey. The petition was filed by 74 provincial assembly members from parties other than UML, contesting the appointment of Yadav under Article 168(3) of the Constitution by then-Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari. Yadav, leader of the UML Madhesh Province parliamentary party, was sworn in at a hotel in Bardibas on Monday.

NEPSE dips by 20.56 points

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined by 20.56 points on Wednesday, closing at 2,544.59 points. According to NEPSE, a total of shares worth Rs 3.84 billion were traded during the day. Out of the total listed companies, share prices of 198 declined, 49 gained, while 7 remained unchanged. All sectoral sub-indices except manufacturing and processing recorded declines.

Sonapur Mineral pays first installment of outstanding premium tariff, power supply restored

Sonapur Mineral and Oil Pvt. Ltd., operating in Ghorahi, Dang, has cleared the first installment of its outstanding premium tariff dues for electricity consumed through dedicated and trunk lines during the load-shedding period. Gold price drops by Rs 2,100 per tola

The price of gold declined by Rs 2,100 per tola on Wednesday, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association. The Federation set the price of gold at Rs 244,300 per tola today, down from Rs 246,400 on Tuesday. While gold prices have fallen, the price of silver increased by Rs 5 per tola today, the Federation added.

Study begins for alternative Manaslu climbing route via Manang

Naso Rural Municipality in Manang has launched a preliminary study to explore a new trekking route for climbing Mount Manaslu, aiming to identify a shorter and easier western approach to the 8,163-meter peak. The study, coordinated by the rural municipality with support from the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), seeks to revive the historic Bhimthang route, which was used during the first successful ascent of Manaslu in 1956 by Japan’s T. Imanishi and Nepal’s Gyalzen Norbu.
