KATHMANDU: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming met Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane at his residence in Budhanilkantha on Tuesday and assured that China would stand with Nepal from search and rescue operations to reconstruction following the devastating Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa.
During the meeting, Ambassador Zhang expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property caused by the flood in the Bhotekoshi River area.
Zhang said China was ready to provide whatever assistance Nepal requires during the disaster. He said China has already been providing rescue personnel, DNA experts and other technical support following the flood, and that such assistance would continue as long as necessary.
Lamichhane thanked China for its support to Nepal during the disaster. He said Chinese financial and technical assistance would be important for disaster risk reduction and management in Nepal and called for continued cooperation between the two countries.
The two also discussed the recent disaster situation in Nepal, technical assistance required for ongoing search and rescue operations, and further cooperation between Nepal and China in disaster management.
The meeting came after Lamichhane stepped up his engagements following the disaster, including discussions with local and provincial governments and an all-party meeting held earlier on Tuesday.
He subsequently met the Chinese ambassador to discuss the disaster response and international cooperation.
