Property worth Rs 40 million damaged in recent rain-induced disasters in Jhapa



JHAPA: Recent rain-induced disasters have caused property damage worth Rs 40 million in the Kankai area of Jhapa district.

Rajendra Kumar Pokharel, Mayor of Kankai Municipality, reported that the city suffered extensive damages during the disaster in the first week of October.

Flooding from the Mai River submerged nearly 25 bighas of land and damaged approximately 800 meters of road in the municipality. In addition, around 50 households were directly affected by the floods.

Currently, the municipality, in collaboration with various social organizations, is distributing relief materials to the affected families. Mayor Pokharel also pledged to introduce additional relief packages to support the impacted community.

Meanwhile, Tej Prakash Prasain, Assistant Chief District Officer of Jhapa, stated that as many as 2,500 children have been affected by the rain-related disasters across the district.

“The affected children are receiving educational materials, and local authorities have been instructed to provide textbooks to them,” Prasain added.
