27 absconding accused arrested in six days in Karnali

KARNALI: Nepal Police have arrested 27 absconding accused over the past six days across various districts of Karnali Province. The arrests were made under a special campaign launched by the Provincial Police Office, Surkhet, targeting individuals who had been evading court verdicts.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Nepal Police Madhav Prasad Shrestha, Chief of the Provincial Police Office, the accused had been convicted by the courts in various criminal cases and were sentenced to imprisonment and fines but had gone into hiding to avoid serving their sentences.

DIG Shrestha stated that the arrests were made through strategic investigation, surveillance, and tip-offs. The arrested individuals have now been presented before the respective courts.

“In total, these 27 individuals had pending sentences amounting to 32 years, 11 months, and 20 days of imprisonment, along with fines totaling Rs 23,100,” Shrestha said.

Police officials said the campaign aims to ensure enforcement of court decisions and to support the judicial system. The initiative is also part of a broader effort to promote public safety and build a crime-free society.

The police have appealed to the public to share any information about absconding convicts to help expedite justice and uphold the rule of law.
