Koshi Province appoints chairs to Halesi and Barahakshetra development committees

BIRATNAGAR: The Koshi Provincial Government has appointed new leadership for two key development committees under its jurisdiction, filling long-vacant posts and initiating steps to strengthen regional development efforts.

Dilli Kumar Rai has been named the chairperson of the Halesi Mahadevsthan Development Committee in Khotang, while Prakash Basnet has been appointed chair of the Greater Barahakshetra Development Committee. The decision was made during the 39th meeting of the Provincial Council of Ministers.

Provincial government spokesperson and Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Rewatiraman Bhandari, also informed that three women members have been nominated to join the committees, though their names have not yet been disclosed.

The term of the previous development committees had ended on May 7, 2024. Since then, the bodies had been without a chairperson, office bearers, or a member secretary. The appointment of a member secretary, as per the development committee formation order, will be carried out through open competition.

Minister Bhandari added that the appointment process for the Pathibhara Area Development Committee is expected to be finalized in the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
