President Paudel dismisses Madhesh Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has dismissed Madhesh Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari from her post.

The President took the decision on Tuesday based on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, according to spokesperson Pradeep Kumar Koirala at the Office of the President.

The Cabinet had, on Monday, recommended her removal under Article 165 (1b) of the Constitution.

Subedi has drawn controversy after she administered the oath of office to UML leader Saroj Kumar Yadav as Chief Minister at a hotel in Bardibas, Mahottari, early Monday morning, just before leaving for Kathmandu, citing health reasons.

Following the incident, the Cabinet decided to remove her and recommend Surendra Labh Karna as the new Chief of Madhesh Province.
