KATHMANDU: The 141st birth anniversary of Mahaguru Falgunanda, the revered spiritual leader and social reformer of the Kirat community, is being celebrated today with various programs across the country.
Born on 25 Kartik 1942 BS in Ilam, Mahaguru Falgunanda made remarkable contributions to Kirat religion, language, script, rituals, and social reform. He introduced several reform policies, collectively known as Satya Dharma Muchulka, issued on 24 Baisakh 1988 BS, which emphasized moral conduct and community harmony.
Falgunanda passed away in 2005 BS, and in recognition of his contributions, the government declared him a national luminary on 16 Mangsir 2066 BS. His birth anniversary is widely observed, especially in the eastern hilly districts of Taplejung, Tehrathum, Panchthar, Ilam, and Jhapa, where the Kirat community is prominent.
The Kirat community in Kathmandu has also organized various events to mark the occasion, according to Kirat Astrology Association President Chandra Kumar Sherma.
