Shashank advises Deuba: Dissolve central committee, appoint acting president

Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shashank Koirala has suggested that party president Sher Bahadur Deuba appoint an acting president. Speaking to journalists at the Congress Party office in Sanepa on Saturday, Koirala proposed that the central committee be dissolved and one person be designated as acting president to prepare for the general convention.

Gen-Z representatives call for participation in upcoming elections

Representatives of the Gen-Z movement have urged all political parties and groups to participate in the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. Speaking to journalists after discussions with Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Cabinet members at the President’s residence, Sheetal Niwas, the representatives emphasized the importance of utilizing the announced election, noting that without participation from established parliamentary parties, elections could not proceed.

Ex-soldiers to Oli and Prachanda: Don’t underestimate the army

Former army personnel have urged political leaders not to defame the Nepal Army. At a press conference held in Kathmandu on Saturday, retired army officials including former Captain Thaman Bahadur Basnet, former Major General Rajendra Thapa, former Brigadier General Bharat Bahadur Rayamajhi, former Brigadier General Dr. Prem Singh Basnyat, and retired Captain Basudev Adhikari said that the country has moved toward a peaceful resolution largely because the army refrained from using force during the Gen-Z movement.

Youth stage sit-in at Congress headquarters demanding youth-friendly reforms in the party

Youth members affiliated with the Nepali Congress staged a sit-in at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Saturday, demanding mandatory 40 percent representation of youth in all party departments. The demonstrators called for an amendment to the party statute to ensure at least 40 percent youth representation within all organizational departments.

A group calling itself the “Gen-Z Alliance for Monarchy” has issued a warning of rebellion. In a statement released on Saturday, the group claimed to represent the “true Gen-Z” generation and accused the current government and political leadership of sidelining genuine patriotic and nationalist youths. The group alleged that the representatives invited for talks with the prime minister and the president were either affiliated with political parties’ student organizations or were members of foreign INGOs acting against Nepal’s national interests.

President Poudel undergoing medical tests, condition normal

President Ram Chandra Poudel was admitted to the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center under Tribhuvan University, Maharajgunj, on Saturday afternoon after experiencing health problems. According to a statement issued by the center following his admission, the President’s condition is normal, and medical examinations are being carried out. The hospital confirmed that his health remains stable.

Post-disaster relief and reconstruction government’s top priority: Minister Ghising

Minister for Physical Planning and Transport, Kulman Ghising, has said that the implementation of relief and reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of the recent water-induced disaster is a top priority for the government. Following a field inspection of areas affected by recent floods and landslides in Ilam today, the Minister stated that the government stands with the citizens hit by the disasters. “Prompt relief and long-term, durable reconstruction efforts will be carried out,” he said. The Minister visited Rong Rural Municipality, Suryodaya Municipality, and Ilam Municipality, and interacted with locals from Ilam, Sandakpur, Maijogmai, and surrounding settlements. He also inspected the damaged road infrastructure.

One dead at Mechinagar-based Manavsewa Ashram, 11 deaths in a year

A 53-year-old man residing at the Manavsewa Ashram in Mechinagar Municipality-4, Jhapa, has died while asleep, police said. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Khagendra Bahadur Khadka of the District Police Office, the deceased has been identified as Ashraful Muslim, who had been rescued and sent to the ashram by the Shivasatakshi Municipality on October 6.

CAN opens vacancy for foreign head coach for national women’s cricket team

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced an open call for applications for the position of Head Coach of the National Women’s Cricket Team, aiming to appoint a foreign coach ahead of major upcoming international tournaments. According to CAN, applicants must hold an ECB or CA Level-3 coaching certificate (or equivalent) and have at least five years of professional coaching experience. The new coach will be responsible for improving team performance, leading the support staff, and developing a long-term strategy for talent identification and player development.

The CPN-UML Secretariat meeting scheduled for Saturday has been postponed after party Chair KP Sharma Oli fell ill, according to party office secretary Dr. Bhishma Adhikari. The meeting will now take place on Sunday.

Floodlight installation underway as TU Cricket Stadium nears completion

Construction work at the Tribhuvan University (TU) Cricket Ground in Kirtipur is moving ahead rapidly, with the project team aiming to complete all major works before Tihar. According to project officials, two floodlight poles have already been installed, while the installation of the remaining poles is currently underway. Once completed, the upgraded facility will be ready to host the second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
