Post-disaster relief and reconstruction government’s top priority: Minister Ghising

ILAM: Minister for Physical Planning and Transport, Kulman Ghising, has said that the implementation of relief and reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of the recent water-induced disaster is a top priority for the government.

Following a field inspection of areas affected by recent floods and landslides in Ilam today, the Minister stated that the government stands with the citizens hit by the disasters. “Prompt relief and long-term, durable reconstruction efforts will be carried out,” he said. The Minister visited Rong Rural Municipality, Suryodaya Municipality, and Ilam Municipality, and interacted with locals from Ilam, Sandakpur, Maijogmai, and surrounding settlements. He also inspected the damaged road infrastructure.

The country, including Ilam, suffered significant loss of life and property due to disasters triggered by late monsoon-induced rainfall, mainly on October 4. Considering the extent of the damage, the government has declared Ilam a crisis-hit zone for the next three months.

As of now, the disaster-induced death toll in the district stands at 39.
