BP Highway fully operational from today

KAVREPALANCHOK: Diversions have been constructed along several sections of the BP Highway that were damaged by last week’s floods, and vehicular movement is expected to resume fully from Saturday morning.

According to Suman Yogesh, Senior Divisional Engineer at the Divisional Road Office, Bhaktapur, a track had already been opened on Friday morning from Chauki Danda in Namobuddha Municipality-6 to Chiuribas in Roshi Rural Municipality.

A temporary track has been completed along the entire damaged section, paving the way for the highway to become operational today. Flooding from the Roshi River had washed away approximately four kilometers of road in the Roshi area. Construction of the diversions began on Tuesday, with around two dozen machines deployed since Thursday afternoon to speed up the work.

The BP Highway had sustained damage at 17 different locations due to floods and landslides. A similar diversion was constructed in the same area last year to temporarily restore traffic following severe weather events.
