Gold and silver prices updated after weeklong standoff ends

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association has resumed price determination for gold and silver after a week-long halt, following an agreement with the government.

The federation had suspended price updates since July 3 in protest against the government’s decision to classify gold as a luxury item in the new budget. The standoff had disrupted pricing in the domestic bullion market.

After reaching a six-point agreement with the Ministry of Finance, the federation announced the withdrawal of all protest programs and resumed daily price updates starting Friday.

As per the new pricing, the price of gold has dropped by Rs 300 per tola, now fixed at Rs 191,800, compared to Rs 192,100 on July 3.

Meanwhile, silver prices have increased by Rs 50 per tola, reaching Rs 2,220 from the previous Rs 2,170.
