Kathmandu Metropolitan City to sterilize dogs and cats

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is set to carry out a sterilization campaign for community dogs and cats within the city during the fiscal year 2025/26.

The city has invited applications from organizations interested in providing rabies vaccinations and sterilization services.

The metropolis has called on interested organizations to contact the Department of Agriculture and Livestock within 15 days to submit their applications.

According to Dr. Puja Khanal, a veterinarian at the Department, applicants are required to submit documents including their organizational statute and registration certificate, proof of being listed with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, a certificate showing experience in sterilizing dogs and cats, a veterinarian’s certification, and evidence of vehicles, shelters, and sterilization facilities.

They must also provide a valid rental agreement and details regarding the necessary equipment for the procedures. Dr. Khanal stated that the selected organization will be awarded a contract based on an evaluation of its infrastructure and proposed services. Once the program begins, KMC will conduct regular monitoring to ensure that the work is being carried out effectively.
