Mahavir Jayanti: President emphasizes on national unity

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has extended his best wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali Jain sisters and brothers, both at home and abroad, on the occasion of the 2624th birth anniversary of Mahavir, the founder of Jainism.

In his message of goodwill, President Paudel noted that Mahavir practiced the highest form of restraint and non-violence. He emphasized that national unity could be strengthened by fostering tolerance and goodwill among Nepal’s religious, social, and cultural diversity if the guiding principles of Mahavir are followed.

He expressed his belief that Mahavir Jayanti would inspire everyone to actively contribute to building a cultured and civilized society based on mutual trust, love, and unity.

Mahavir’s birth anniversary is celebrated annually on Chaitra Shukla Trayodashi by Jain communities with various programs in Nepal and around the world. Mahavir established five paths to salvation: truth, non-violence, celibacy, infallibility, and non-aggression—and he exemplified these principles in his own life.

Mahavir Jayanti is enthusiastically celebrated each year in Nepal by followers of various traditions, including Vedic, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh, and others.
