Amaresh Kumar Singh condemns KMC’s raid on scrap businesses, likens Balen to Hitler

KATHMANDU: Independent Member of Parliament Dr Amaresh Kumar Singh has strongly criticized Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balen Shah, likening him to Adolf Hitler over a recent raid on scrap businesses in Teku.

Speaking during an emergency session of parliament on Monday, Singh condemned the city’s actions, accusing Balen of using force against workers in a manner reminiscent of Nazi rule.

“Nazism was once imposed in Germany by Hitler. Now, scrap businesses in Kathmandu are being crushed under dozers,” Singh said. “Three workers have been seriously injured in the raid, including Muslims and Madhesis. Ranjan Rauniyar from Rautahat is in critical condition at the Trauma Center.”

He challenged Balen to take similar action against government institutions.

“If he dares, he should demolish the Supreme Court, Parliament Building, Sheetal Niwas, the Prime Minister’s Office, and Singha Durbar,” he said.

Singh further accused the mayor of turning into a dictator.

“The mayor of Kathmandu is behaving like Hitler in Germany and Mussolini in Italy,” he said. “Arresting those who operate businesses with government permission is unacceptable.”

His comments come after KMC officials, with the support of law enforcement, raided scrap businesses in Teku on Sunday, citing illegal operations and environmental concerns.

The incident has sparked political and social debate, with critics arguing that the move disproportionately targeted marginalized communities.
