KATHMANADU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has stated that without good governance and transparency, the fruits of democracy cannot reach the people’s doorsteps.

Addressing a program on the occasion of the 34th founding day of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Monday, he emphasized that the people’s high expectations for development and good governance should be met by improving the living standards of citizens.

He suggested that for the country’s interest, welfare, and international image, the focus should be on working with integrity, impartiality, transparency, and fearlessness as core values.

President Paudel noted the need for efforts to reform policies, methods, and trends in a way that fosters discipline and integrity.

Additionally, he pointed out that unnecessary fascination with power leads to corruption as individuals misuse processes, methods, and systems for personal gain.

He said, “Without good governance and transparency, the fruits of democracy cannot reach the people. By improving citizens’ living standards, fulfilling the people’s aspirations for development and good governance, we must work in the country’s interest, welfare, and international image.”

“We should make ethics, impartiality, transparency, and fearlessness our main principles. To do so, it is crucial to develop a system of discipline and ethics, making efforts for policy and method-based reforms effective. Unnecessary obsession with power leads people to corruption by misusing processes and systems,” the Preident said.

He also acknowledged that with the rapid development and use of information technology, the methods and trends of corruption have become more complex.

The President said the nature and form of corruption are changing, and as such, the investigation and prosecution processes must adapt accordingly.

He further suggested that state machinery must remain vigilant to prevent the misuse of government funds and budget programs in a timely manner.

President Poudel mentioned that there have been complaints regarding the delay in resolving bills related to corruption.
