KATHMANDU: Transparency International (TI) Nepal has expressed serious concern over various ordinances issued by the government last month, stating that they undermine good governance and raise questions about political motives.
In a statement issued on Sunday, TI Nepal President Madan Krishna Sharma criticized the government for hastily introducing ordinances, arguing that such actions could have serious consequences.
Among the ordinances brought forward, some amendments to the Nepal Act on land have been delegated without limits, raising concerns about their impact on critical areas such as forests, natural resources, land acquisition, land use, and human settlements.
The anti-corruption watchdog has urged the parliament, elected by the sovereign people, to take an active role in enacting laws and regulations that serve the country’s interests.
TI Nepal also emphasized the importance of incorporating provisions that strengthen transparency and good governance, in line with universally accepted principles.
