Govt forms inquiry commission to implement Supreme Court orders on transport sector



KATHMANDU: The government has formed an inquiry commission to implement Supreme Court orders related to the transport sector.

Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel, while announcing the Cabinet decision taken on December 8 at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, said the commission will be chaired by Deepak Subedi. Members of the commission include Sharad Adhikari and Yogendra Nath Karmacharya.

The Cabinet also approved Dr. Govind Prasad Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, as a candidate for the 9th Secretary position under the Colombo Plan. In addition, the government decided to terminate the double taxation and financial fraud prevention agreement between Nepal and Mauritius and approved the establishment of the Irrigation Management Company Limited under the Ministry of Energy.

In another decision, the Cabinet announced a cash award of Rs 2.5 million to former marathon runner and Olympian Jeet Bahadur KC, who won Nepal’s first international medal, a bronze at the inaugural Asian Athletics Championship held in Manila, Philippines, in 1973.
