Kathmandu Metropolitan City to sterilize stray dogs and cats at Rs 2,500 per animal



KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced a program to sterilize and vaccinate stray dogs and cats on city streets.

Under the “Dog and Cat Sterilization, Peace Management, and Sheltering Program” launched for the fiscal year 2025/26, the metropolis has invited proposals from community organizations or groups interested in carrying out the sterilization and vaccination work.

Interested institutions must contact the Department of Agriculture and Animal Services within 15 days of the notice’s publication.

Led by Mayor Balen Shah, the metropolis has fixed Rs 2,500 per animal for sterilization and vaccination. Organizations must submit proof of veterinary certification, available transport and shelter facilities, required equipment, and prior experience in sterilization work.

According to a notice signed by Dr. Pooja Khanal, Head of Animal Health, and Nrigami Nyaupane, Department Head, the campaign aims to effectively control the population of stray dogs and cats in the city.
