Protesters take over President’s residence

KATHMANDU: Protesters on Tuesday afternoon entered the residence of President Ram Chandra Paudel.

The move comes as demonstrators continue to target key government offices, setting fire and vandalizing buildings across the capital.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli submitted his resignation, yet the nationwide protests by Gen-Z activists showed no signs of abating. Demonstrators have previously occupied central ministries at Singha Durbar, vandalized the Parliament in Baneshwor, and caused damage at the Supreme Court, signaling a sweeping challenge to state authority.

In response to the unrest, Nepal’s top government officials, including the Chief Secretary and the Chief of Army Staff, issued a joint statement urging citizens to remain calm and prevent further damage to life and property.

Despite these appeals, the demonstrations have persisted, highlighting the intensity of public anger following Monday’s crackdown that left 19 young protesters dead.
