KATHMANDU: Seven Sherpas successfully reached the summit of Sagarmatha (Mount Everest), the world’s highest peak, at 5:00 PM on Friday, according to Leeladhar Awasthi, Director at the Department of Tourism.

The team, part of the 8K Expedition, had earlier completed the critical task of rope fixing, paving the way for other climbers to begin their ascent. The expedition was led by Ashok Lama and included Chhiring Pemba Sherpa, Pem Nurbu Sherpa, Tashi Sherpa, Karma Gyaljen Sherpa, Tashi Gyaljen Sherpa, and Pastenji Sherpa.

“With rope fixing complete, the official climbing for this season has begun,” Awasthi said, noting that more climbers are expected to proceed toward the summit based on favorable weather conditions.

The current period is considered optimal for mountain climbing in the region.
