KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal is dispatching relief materials—including food items, medical supplies, clothing, tarpaulins, tents, and garments—to Myanmar, which was recently struck by a powerful earthquake.
The humanitarian aid, collected from various government agencies and the private sector, will be flown to Myanmar today (Wednesday) aboard a chartered Nepal Airlines Corporation flight.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the total weight of the relief consignment is 41 tons, with an estimated value of Rs 24.7 million.
Earlier this evening, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak inspected the humanitarian aid warehouse at Tribhuvan International Airport and urged collective efforts to provide timely assistance during times of disaster.
Myanmar was hit by a 7.7-magnitude earthquake on March 28. It is worth noting that Myanmar had extended assistance to Nepal following the devastating earthquake in 2015.
