Rajendra Lingden to receive former King Gyanendra at airport

KATHMANDU: Preparations are in full swing for a grand rally in Kathmandu to welcome former King Gyanendra Shah, who is set to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport this afternoon.

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is leading the rally, with party chair Rajendra Lingden also expected to join.

RPP Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi and Spokesperson Mohan Shrestha have been assigned to oversee the welcome arrangements. However, Spokesperson Shrestha confirmed that Lingden himself will also be present at the event.

Supporters gathered at Gaushala and Tinkune are set to march from the airport to Nirmal Niwas, the former royal residence.

The event is expected to be a major show of strength for royalist forces, as they seek to demonstrate support for the former monarch.

In response, security personnel have been put on high alert across Kathmandu.

Authorities have deployed security forces at key locations, including the Narayanhiti Palace Museum and Tribhuvan International Airport.

A District Security Committee meeting, chaired by Kathmandu Chief District Officer Rishi Ram Tiwari, has also been held to strategize measures against potential unrest.

Security sources indicate that all four security agencies will be mobilized if necessary, with intelligence teams—both in uniform and plain clothes—stationed at major intersections to monitor the situation closely.
