Lawmakers call for rescuing people from elephant, monkey menace



KATHMANDU: Lawmakers have drawn the government’s attention to the need to control the menace of wild animals in eastern Nepal and of monkeys in the hilly regions.

Airing their views in a zero hour of the National Assembly (NA) today, Rukmini Koirala apprised that the session that people in Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari and Udayapur districts continue to be terrorized by wild animals, urging the government to implement prompts measures to contain the situation.

Bishnu Devi Pudasaini said farmers in many areas have quit agricultural activities owing to monkey menace. “They have been compelled to leave their land uncultivated.”

She proposed the government to technically assist farers of such places to engage in the farming of ginger, garlic and stinging nettle plants which have high market values.

Krishna Prasad Adhikari drew the governments to the need to revive Usury Investigation Commission and address the problem.

Renu Chand demanded stern action against those responsible for the killings of two teenage girls in Achham.

Others members in the NA: Jitjung Basnet, Padam Bahadur Pariyar, Manarupa Sharma, Bishnu Kumari Sapkota and Sabitri Malla among others drew the government’s concern to contemporary pressing issues including the increasing market price.
