KATHMANDU: The Gen-Z demonstrations that began Monday have escalated into violent unrest, leaving at least nine people dead after security forces opened fire to prevent protesters from storming the Parliament building in New Baneshwor.
Dozens of others were injured in the clashes, many critically. According to hospital sources, six people have died at the National Trauma Center, where more than 100 injured have been admitted. Four gunshot victims remain under treatment there, along with others hurt by baton strikes.
Additional fatalities were reported at Civil Service Hospital in Baneshwor, Kathmandu Medical College in Sinamangal, and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj.
Authorities have not released an official casualty figure, but medical officials confirm the death toll has reached at least nine. The situation in the Parliament area remains tense.
