RSP and RPP boycott House meeting again

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) boycotted Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives, demanding a parliamentary probe committee to investigate the growing controversy surrounding the visit visa scandal.

Both parties rejected the probe committee led by former Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi, which was formed by the government to look into the matter.

They insist that only a parliamentary committee can independently and credibly investigate the case, which has implicated Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

At the start of the session, RSP lawmaker Sobita Gautam and RPP Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi announced their parties’ decision to boycott the meeting. The parties have been pressing for Home Minister Lekhak’s resignation and a thorough investigation into the allegations since the issue surfaced.

On Monday, the RSP had staged a bell-ringing protest inside the parliament, while the RPP had walked out of the session. Both parties have maintained their stance since the controversy emerged on May 27, demanding accountability and transparency in the alleged misuse of visit visas under ministerial oversight.
