KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi has denied the involvement of royalist supporters in the arson incidents reported in Koteshwor and Jadibuti areas on March 28, claiming instead that Maoist cadres were responsible.
Speaking at an RPP demonstration held in Balkhu, Kathmandu on Tuesday, Shahi alleged that individuals posing as royalists had infiltrated the protest and set fire to a herbal company.
“Royalists did not set fire on March 28,” Shahi said. “It has been confirmed that Maoist cadres set fire to the herbal company.”
He accused republican parties of being embroiled in continuous corruption scandals and claimed that they would eventually face imprisonment. Drawing a contrast, Shahi said that RPP leaders had been jailed in the past for voicing dissent, not corruption.
Reiterating the party’s pro-monarchy stance, Shahi declared that Nepal was inherently a monarchy and a people’s country. He warned republican leaders against being too hasty and accused them of overseeing the decline of national industries post-republic.
