Nepal Police Club stuns Brigade Boys, advances to Aaha Rara Gold Cup semifinals

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club has secured a spot in the semifinals of the 24th Aaha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup.

In the quarterfinal match held at Pokhara Stadium on Saturday, Police defeated the UK-based Brigade Boys United Club 2-0.

Vivek Pandey scored the opening goal in the 28th minute, followed by a goal from captain Ram Baji in the 40th minute.

Both goals came from corner kicks. Despite creating several chances, Brigade failed to convert any into goals.

Police coach Chetan Ghimire credited the team’s success to their ‘dead-ball’ strategy, while Brigade coach Suresh Rana attributed the loss to poor field conditions and a lack of adequate training.

Police will face the winner of the match between Church Boys and Tribhuvan Army on January 30 in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Three Star Club and Machhindra Club will compete in the second quarterfinal on Sunday.

The tournament, running until February 15, will award Rs 1.2 million to the winner and Rs 601,000 to the runner-up.

Additional prizes will be given to the ‘Man of the Match,’ ‘Fan of the Match,’ and a lucky spectator in each game.
