KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has issued a directive requiring all private, cooperative, non-governmental, and community hospitals and health institutions to obtain mandatory permits and renew existing permits if they have not done so already.

The ministry issued the directive on Tuesday, emphasizing that according to the law, obtaining and renewing permits is compulsory.

The ministry also warned that failure to do so would result in penalties.

The directive highlights that there have been concerns regarding health institutions functioning without proper permits or failing to renew them. It cites Rule 12, Sub-rule (1) of the Public Health Service Regulation, 2020, which mandates that no private non-governmental, cooperative, or non-profit community health facility should operate or provide services without a valid permit.

As a result, all such institutions are required to secure and renew their permits in order to continue their operations. Failure to do so will lead to legal action, in accordance with the decision made by the Government of Nepal (at the Secretary level) on January 7, 2005.
