Cabinet extends tenure of four APF DIGs by one year

KATHMANDU: The government has extended the tenure of four Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of the Armed Police Force, Nepal, by one year.

The extension will take effect from Wednesday.

The decision was announced by the government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, following a meeting of the Council of Ministers.

The DIGs whose tenure has been extended are Shambhu Subedi, Ganesh Thada Magar, Kul Bahadur Nembang, and Kamal Giri.

The Cabinet’s decision came in response to a proposal by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to Clause 65 (g) of the Armed Police Force Regulations 2016, the tenure of the Armed Police Inspector General (IG) is limited to four years. All four DIGs were set to complete their four-year terms today.

Sub-rule (2) of Section 65 (C) of the Regulation states that on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Armed Police (IG), the government can extend the tenure of Additional Inspector General (AIG) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) by one year after four years.

According to this arrangement, today’s cabinet meeting has extended the tenure of all the four Deputy Inspector General by one year.
