LAMJUNG: Chair of the Maoist Centre and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said the people continue to place hope, trust, and support in the Maoist party.
Speaking at a gathering in Bhoteodar, Sundarbazar Municipality–9, Lamjung, organized under the Mid-Hill Highway Campaign, Dahal said he still enjoys public support because of the work he led while in government. He emphasized that even though the Maoist party is no longer in power, it remains committed to a people-centric agenda.
Refuting claims that the Maoists have become politically irrelevant, Dahal said, “It’s not true that our party has been sidelined. The people recognize our contributions, and we are confident of becoming the largest party in the next election.”
Dahal recalled key achievements under Maoist leadership, including the initiation of major infrastructure projects such as the Mid-Hill Highway, Postal Road, North-South Corridors, and a loan waiver of up to Rs 30,000 for poor farmers during his first term in office.
“In the second term, we ended load-shedding and started exporting electricity to neighboring countries, helping to boost economic development,” he added.
He also highlighted progress during his third term, citing international advocacy for climate justice, electricity trade agreements with India and Bangladesh, the opening of 14 border crossings with China, and a nationwide campaign for good governance.
Dahal acknowledged that although the party has accomplished a lot, it has struggled to effectively communicate its achievements to the public. “This campaign is an effort to share the truth with the people and guide them toward the right path,” he said.
