Preparations for convention, election go together: General Secretary Thapa

SARLAHI: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has said preparations would go together for both the 15th general convention of the party and the election to House of Representatives (HoR).

At a press meet organized by the Nepal Press Union Sarlahi chapter here Saturday, General Secretary Thapa, however, expressed worry over whether time for election would not suffice as the party’s convention was scheduled next month. Preparations are therefore intensified side by side, he added.

Thapa admitted that much time was wasted in a debate whether the general convention was essential before election or not. Now, as the party has concluded to hold general convention before HoR election, all of us need to concentrate on it, he reminded.

In his argument, the party embraced the March 5 election in order to prevent further damage on constitution. “We’re fully committed to the March 5 election. All sides’ suspicion on it must be wiped out to speed up preparations for election. We informed government on the possible threat to be posed by the inmates escaped from jails and the weapons looted during the September protest,” he explained.

He stressed the government must curb criminal activities.

The General Secretary also reminded the all-party meeting Prime Minister Sushila Karki held on Friday, where she was made aware that all groups and political parties should be given opportunity to participate in the election.

He also shared that he would launch his campaign of party president campaign across the country with new policy and messages. Thapa made it clear that he would fight election from Kathmandu Valley next time as well.
