President urges broad support to ensure successful March 5 HoR elections

President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that development capable of improving the living standards of citizens is the nation’s foremost need. Speaking at a special ceremony to inaugurate the newly constructed administrative building of Lalitpur Metropolitan City today, the President stressed the need for effective service delivery and good governance.

Road division begins demolition of structures for main road expansion in Hetauda

The Road Division Office, Hetauda, has begun demolishing physical structures falling within the road boundary as part of the main road expansion project in the Bagmati Province capital. The demolition work started early Friday morning using excavators, targeting structures built within the 25–25 yards width required for widening the main market-area road, according to Guru Prasad Adhikari of the Road Division Office.

EC prepared for upcoming polls: Acting Chief Commissioner

Acting Chief Commissioner of the Election Commission (EC) Ram Prasad Bhandari has said the Commission is fully prepared for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026. Speaking to RSS, with 90 days remaining until polling day, Bhandari said the government has fulfilled the EC’s requirements, enabling a favourable environment for the election. He noted that the Commission has already published its work schedule and is proceeding accordingly.

Preparations for convention, election go together: General Secretary Thapa

General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has said preparations would go together for both the 15th general convention of the party and the election to House of Representatives (HoR). At a press meet organized by the Nepal Press Union Sarlahi chapter here Saturday, General Secretary Thapa, however, expressed worry over whether time for election would not suffice as the party’s convention was scheduled next month. Preparations are therefore intensified side by side, he added.

Oli unveils e-bulletin of party’s mouthpiece

CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli has urged one and all not to think of the vanishing of the established political parties.  Unveiling the e-bulletin of the party’s mouthpiece Nabayug at the party central office in Chyasal on Saturday, the UML Chairman said the party’s forthcoming 11th national congress will break all circles against the UML and advance further.

Pokhara Avengers defeat Chitwan Rhinos by 8 wickets

Pokhara Avengers defeated Chitwan Rhinos by 8 wickets in the second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) on Saturday. Chasing a target of 121, Pokhara reached 122 runs in 19 overs, losing only two wickets. Adam Rossington top-scored with 65 off 48 balls, hitting four fours and five sixes. Arjun Saud remained unbeaten on 43 off 53 balls, with two fours and one six.

Seven vehicles involved in single crash in Dhunibesi, Dhading

Seven vehicles were involved in a single accident at Chaalise, Dhunibesi–6, along the Prithvi Highway in Dhading on Saturday. According to the District Police Office, the incident involved a school bus, three other buses, two trucks, and a motorcycle. Police said the accident occurred after the brakes of an Indian-number-plated truck failed, causing it to collide with the vehicles ahead.

Prachanda: Gen-Z movement has created space for self-reflection and reform

Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has claimed that the new political equation formed in Madhesh Province will soon be reflected in other provinces as well. Speaking at the NCP Madhesh Province-level Unity Assembly held in Janakpur on Saturday, Prachanda said that previously assumed political alignments had been broken during the formation of the Madhesh provincial government, paving the way for a new power equation. He asserted that this new alignment, starting from Madhesh, will expand across all provinces.

EC issues 20-point directives to political parties

The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has issued 20-point directives to political parties in preparation for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026. The National Assembly (NA) election has been fixed for December 26. According to Assistant Spokesperson Prakash Neupane, the directives were issued under Section 57 of the Political Parties Act, 2073, urging all registered parties to extend necessary support for both elections and to uphold good governance and inclusiveness throughout the process.

Du Plessis–Heazlett blitz fires Biratnagar Kings to commanding win over Royals

Biratnagar Kings rode on a devastating batting show from Faf du Plessis and Sam Heazlett to hand Sudurpaschim Royals their first defeat of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) season on Saturday. Chasing 148 at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Biratnagar completely dismantled the Royals’ bowling attack, thanks to the power-hitting of du Plessis and Heazlett at the top. The pair dominated from the outset, setting the tone for a chase that was wrapped up inside just 12 overs.

Ujyalo Nepal Party central member Bidhya Shrestha resigns, cites moral responsibility over Hetauda demolition drive

Bidhya Shrestha, a central committee member of Energy Minister Kulman Ghising-led Ujyalo Nepal Party, has announced her resignation, expressing moral objection to recent incidents in Hetauda. Shrestha made the announcement through social media, stating that she is stepping down from her central committee position effective today. “I hereby resign from the central committee of Ujyalo Nepal Party from today. What will other fellow activists do? My morality did not allow me to continue,” she wrote.

Koirala family divisions re-emerge as Nepali Congress heads toward 15th General Convention

As the Nepali Congress intensifies preparations for its 15th General Convention in the wake of the Gen-Z movement, internal rifts within the influential Koirala family have resurfaced, reviving a long-running legacy of factionalism inside Nepal’s largest party. During the 14th General Convention, the Koirala family failed to unite, ultimately contributing to Dr. Shekhar Koirala’s defeat against Sher Bahadur Deuba. Now, with the party accelerating toward its next convention, scheduled for January 11–13, the three main Koirala leaders, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, Dr. Shashank Koirala and Sujata Koirala, have yet to forge unity.

Dhulikhel–Khawa road expansion gains momentum after contractor change

The long-delayed upgrade of the Dhulikhel–Khawa section of the Araniko Highway has resumed with renewed pace after a new construction company took charge of the stalled project. According to the Bhaktapur Division Road Office, expansion work restarted in Kartik following a fresh agreement with C&N A-One Kali JV, which has committed to completing the work within 14 months. The contract is valued at Rs 315.6 million excluding VAT.

Construction of Tukucha wastewater treatment center gains pace, to process 15 million liters daily

A major wastewater treatment facility capable of processing 15 million liters of water per day is under construction along the Tukucha stream, which flows through central Kathmandu, before it drains into the Bagmati River. The treatment center is being built on 2.53 hectares at the confluence of Tripureshwar in Kathmandu and Kupondole in Lalitpur. The project, funded through a concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Bagmati River Basin Improvement Project, has an estimated cost of Rs 3.18 billion.

Authorities intensify market monitoring, takes action against eight firms

The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has stepped up market monitoring in recent days, bringing eight industries and firms in Kathmandu and Lalitpur under regulatory action. The Department imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on Om Sai of Naya Bazar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City–17, citing violations under Sections 15 and 38(D) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS. Action was taken in accordance with Section 1A of the same Act.

Kanti Highway to remain closed for maintenance from today

Kanti Highway will remain closed for two months starting today to allow for essential maintenance and road expansion work. According to the District Administration Office, Lalitpur, traffic will be halted daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. along various sections of the highway, which connects Kathmandu to Hetauda.
