KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said she is committed to ensuring that the upcoming election is held peacefully, without a single drop of blood being shed or anyone getting injured.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), Prime Minister Karki reaffirmed her government’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and fear-free election in a peaceful environment.
ANFREL, an international network of election observers based in Bangkok, Thailand, has sent a team led by its Executive Director Brijia Rosales to assess Nepal’s election environment.
Members of the delegation said they were confident that a government led by someone with long judicial experience would be capable of ensuring free and fair elections.
“We believe your long judicial experience can help achieve political restructuring through impartial elections, which will safeguard democratic institutions,” the delegation remarked.
Prime Minister Karki expressed her appreciation for the observers’ interest, saying their presence made her feel that the election process had already begun. “Our main goal is to hold elections. We are fully focused on that. Creating a healthy election environment also requires the engagement of civil society and observers, and your presence has reinforced that sense of beginning,” she said.
Representatives from the National Election Observation Committee (NEOC) of Nepal also attended the meeting, emphasizing the need for strong voter education efforts, particularly targeting enthusiastic first-time young voters. The government has accelerated preparations to conduct the election scheduled for March 5.
