KATHMANDU: Several roads across the country have been obstructed by floods, landslides, road erosion and riverbank erosion triggered by heavy rainfall.
According to Nepal Police, road sections in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhuli, Makawanpur, Nuwakot, Ilam, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa and Rukum West had been affected as of 10 am today.
In Kavrepalanchok, all vehicle movement along the BP Highway section between Khurkot, Nepalthok, Katunjebesi and Sindhuli has been restricted due to the risk of flooding. Vehicles are allowed to operate from 4 am to 6 pm.
Similarly, all types of vehicles have been barred from operating on the Kanti Lokpath in Makawanpur from 5 pm to 5 am due to rainfall.
The Tokha-Chhahare road section in Nuwakot has also been closed to public and private vehicles, except those providing essential services, from 10 pm to 5 am.
The Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 has been completely blocked due to rain. The road has become impassable because of mud, while an alternative route is available.
The Araniko Highway at Liping Bazaar in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2, Sindhupalchok, has remained completely blocked since Bhadra 5 after mud and stones from the Khahare River fell onto the road following a landslide.
Likewise, the Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi road section at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa, has been completely obstructed after erosion by the Trishuli River damaged the road.
The Jajarkot-Dolpa section of the Bheri Corridor at Rizegard Khola in Aathbiskot Municipality-6, Rukum West, has also been completely blocked after a landslide carrying rocks and mud descended onto the road, according to police.
Police have warned that rainfall could cause further road blockages and increase travel risks in the affected areas. Commuters have been advised to exercise caution and check road conditions before travelling.
