Karnali Provincial Assembly to be prorogued at midnight

SURKHET: The sixth session of the second term of the Karnali Provincial Assembly is set to be prorogued from midnight, following a decision made during a cabinet meeting held earlier today.

The decision to recommend ending the ongoing session was made during a meeting of the Karnali Province Council of Ministers. The recommendation will be formally forwarded to the Provincial Head, as per constitutional procedure.

In addition to the prorogation decision, the cabinet also approved several administrative changes and new policies. According to government spokesperson Binod Kumar Shah, the cabinet has decided to appoint Dholak Raj Dhakal—currently serving at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers—as Secretary to the Ministry of Social Development.

The cabinet has also endorsed a recommendation to the federal government to designate Luhadah in Ward No. 4 as the administrative center of Junichande Rural Municipality in Jajarkot district, complying with a recent directive issued by the Supreme Court.

Among other key decisions, the cabinet approved the ‘Journalism Award Distribution Procedure, 2082’, a new framework for recognizing journalistic contributions within the province.

To strengthen information transparency across provincial offices, the meeting also decided to form a Karnali Province Monitoring Committee. The committee, to be led by the Secretary of the Governance Reforms Division under the Chief Minister’s Office, will be tasked with monitoring the implementation of Information Officer roles in government bodies.
