Narayangadh-Butwal Road: Traffic to be closed for expansion work

BUTWAL: Traffic will be temporarily closed in the Daunne area of the Nawalparasi-Narayangadh-Butwal road section for road expansion work.

The decision was made during a stakeholder meeting in Daunne on Saturday, involving participants from Nawalparasi Bardaghat Susta East and West.

It was agreed to close the Daunne area from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm from April 9 to April 13, and from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am from April 14 to April 28, as informed by Ghanashyam Giri, Chairman of Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality.

A joint meeting, including the District Coordination Chiefs of Nawalparasi Bardaghat Susta East and West, the Chief District Officer, mayors of Bardaghat Municipality and Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality, project planning chiefs, consultants, construction entrepreneurs, and security agency heads, decided to expedite the construction, even if it means closing the Daunne road for a few hours each day.

While the rest of the Narayangadh-Butwal road section is being blacktopped, the Daunne area still faces challenges such as bumpy roads, narrow roundabouts, temporary diversions, and excessive dust.

These conditions have made travel difficult, with passengers facing daily inconveniences due to delays in rebuilding structures demolished during the road expansion.

Currently, roadwork in the Daunne section includes hill cutting, wall construction, and culvert installation, as reported by Engineer Shiva Khanal, Information Officer of the Eastern Section.

Of the 114 kilometers of the Narayangadh-Butwal road, including a service lane in the market area, the 14-kilometer Daunne section is being expanded to three lanes due to its high-risk nature.

The road construction is being carried out at a cost of Rs 17 billion. The project deadline has been extended for the third time to mid-August due to delays in completing the work on schedule.
