RPP’s Gyanendra Shahi accuses govt of disregarding Gen-Z mandate

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader Gyanendra Shahi has accused the current government of moving ahead against the core mandate of the Gen-Z movement.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday, Shahi said the Gen-Z protests demanded good governance, action against corruption, and a directly elected executive prime minister, yet the government’s focus has remained solely on holding elections. He reminded the coalition that the government was not formed only to conduct the 2027 election earlier in 2026.

Shahi criticized the government for failing to restore peace, good governance and order even after the heavy loss of lives and property during the Gen-Z uprising. He remarked that the youth involved in the movement feel betrayed by the government.

He stressed the need for a national round-table dialogue among the monarchy, Gen-Z representatives and political parties to reach an agreement on constitutional amendments.

Shahi argued that merely electing new leaders under the current system would not improve the country’s condition. He reiterated RPP’s agenda of abolishing the provincial structure, introducing a directly elected executive, and establishing a constitutional monarchy under a broader Hindu State accommodating Hindu, Buddhist and Kirat identities.

He also informed that the RPP will organize a demonstration in the Kathmandu Valley on December 9 to push for its demands, stating that the issues raised by his party are not just RPP’s concerns but issues of the Nepali people, calling citizens to come to the streets united under the national flag.
