KATHMANDU: The first meeting of the newly elected House of Representatives was disrupted shortly after it began, as lawmakers from the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) staged a protest inside the chamber.
UML lawmakers stood up in protest, obstructing proceedings as soon as the meeting commenced. Chairing the session, Arjun Narsingh KC urged them to take their seats and allow the House to continue.
However, the protesting lawmakers refused to comply, prompting the chair to allocate two minutes to UML lawmaker Guru Baral to present their concerns.
The disruption at the very start of the new parliamentary term signals potential tensions ahead as political parties navigate the early phase of House proceedings.
