Corruption case is political vendetta by KP Oli: Unified Socialist leader

KATHMANDU: Following the filing of a corruption case against former Prime Minister and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, a senior party leader has denounced the move as a politically motivated act of revenge.

Ashesh Ghimire, a central committee member of the Unified Socialist party, claimed on Thursday that the case is the result of former PM KP Sharma Oli’s “ego and vendetta politics.”

“A fair investigation cannot be expected under the regime of KP Sharma Oli, who himself is entangled in multiple scandals,” Ghimire said. “While we fully support impartial investigations and are open to accountability, we strongly reject this fascist-style retaliation aimed at eliminating political opponents.”

Ghimire said the party will hold internal discussions on the matter and reiterated that justice must be equal for all.

“Is KP Sharma Oli the only person immune from corruption while others are always the culprits?” he asked. “We’re not against investigation — but this case against Chairman Nepal reeks of political revenge, not justice.”

The corruption case, filed by the CIAA, marks the first time a sitting lawmaker and former Prime Minister of Nepal has been formally prosecuted for corruption.
