Prachanda slams govt for prioritizing mafia over landless in policy

KATHMANDU: Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has accused the government of pursuing a policy favorable to mafias while neglecting the rights of the landless and squatters.

Speaking during the discussion on the policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year in the House of Representatives, Prachanda criticized the government’s focus on serving middlemen and mafias instead of addressing the needs of marginalized groups.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the brief mention of landless management in the policy and program. “When the rights of the landless are treated so lightly, what justification does the government have for bringing a land-related bill that favors the mafia?” he questioned.

“The government’s claims of inclusivity and social justice are weakening as the state fails to prioritize the landless and squatters in this way.”

Prachanda, leader of the main opposition party, also pointed out that the policy and program included provisions supporting mafia interests.

“They have written just one line in the policy stating that the landless will be managed with great care. But how can you manage this by introducing a land-related bill that favors the mafia? Do you still have any basis for believing in this?” he asked.
