NUP sets Tuesday deadline for govt response on Chaudhary

KATHMANDU: The Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) has given the government until Tuesday to respond regarding the arrest of its patron, Resham Chaudhary.

Speaking at Monday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, NUP lawmaker Lalbir Chaudhary warned that the party would withdraw from the government if either the Prime Minister or the Home Minister failed to address the issue by the deadline.

“The government has yet to take a clear stance on this matter. If the Prime Minister or the Home Minister does not respond by tomorrow, we will be compelled to leave the government,” he said.

Resham Chaudhary was arrested last week while attending a unification program between the Janamat Party and the Nagarik Unmukti Party.

Although the arrest was reportedly based on a Supreme Court letter, it was later revealed that the letter had been issued without authorization by court officer Mahiman Singh Bista.

The Supreme Court subsequently issued another letter ordering Chaudhary’s release and refuting the previous one.
