KATHMANDU: The inaugural SAFF Women’s Club Championship is set to begin on Friday, December 5, at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu, running until December 20.
The championship will feature champion clubs from five South Asian nations. Nepal will be represented by APF Football Club, India by East Bengal, Bangladesh by Nasrin Sports Academy, Bhutan by Transport United Ladies FC, and Pakistan by Karachi City FC.
All participating clubs have expressed their determination to compete fiercely for the title.
At a pre-match conference held Thursday at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, APF Women’s Football Team captain Anita Basnet expressed excitement about hosting Nepal’s first-ever SAFF Women’s Club Championship and emphasized the team’s focus on winning.
APF coach Jivesh Pandey added that while internal training sessions were limited, the players were match-ready due to extensive participation in other competitions. Coaches and captains from the other clubs also expressed confidence in their teams’ preparation and expected competitive matches.
The first matches on Friday will see Karachi City FC face Transport United Ladies FC, followed by APF Football Club taking on Nasrin Sports Academy.
The championship winner will receive $10,000, the runner-up $5,000, and the remaining three teams will each earn $2,000.
