KATHMANDU: Nepal imported petroleum products valued at Rs 6.02 billion through the eastern border point of Kakarbhitta during the first four months of the current fiscal year 2025/26.
According to the Mechi Customs Office, imports included petrol, diesel, LPG, aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene, totaling Rs 6,027,645,000. Customs Information Officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain said this marks an increase of Rs 119 million, or 2.01 percent, compared to the same period last fiscal year.
The rise in imports also boosted revenue collection from petroleum products by 2.90 percent, generating an additional Rs 84 million. In the four-month period, the customs office collected Rs 2.96 billion in revenue.
During this period, Nepal imported 35,156 kiloliters of petrol worth Rs 3.10 billion, 18,408 kiloliters of diesel worth Rs 1.74 billion, 8,557 metric tons of LPG valued at Rs 826 million, 2,908 kiloliters of ATF worth Rs 263 millione, and 508 kiloliters of kerosene worth Rs 46 million.
The customs office attributed the increase in petroleum imports to rising domestic demand and seasonal consumption trends, which have contributed to the overall growth in the sector.
