UML issues internal directive, says parliament dissolution emboldened anti-democratic forces

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has released an internal directive summarizing decisions from its statute convention and subsequent Secretariat and Central Committee meetings.

Issued by Chair KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday, the document provides a detailed assessment of the Gen Z movement of September 8-9, the unrest that followed, and the party’s upcoming 11th General Convention.

The directive states that after former Prime Minister Oli resigned, he had recommended to the President, while serving as caretaker PM, to resolve the political deadlock through constitutional amendments endorsed by Parliament.

“The dissolution of the House of Representatives left the country without a representative body, creating a political vacuum,” the directive reads. “This weakened the people’s sovereign authority and emboldened anti-democratic forces.”
