KATHMANDU: Following the government’s decision to block unregistered social media platforms, Ncell Axiata Limited has announced that such platforms will no longer be accessible through its data services in Nepal.
In a press release issued Thursday, Ncell stated that it would comply with the directives of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). The authority’s instructions were based on the Supreme Court’s order, the Cabinet decision of August 25, the Ministry of Communication’s directive on September 4, and the “Guidelines for Regulating the Use of Social Media, 2080.”
“As per the government’s directive, unregistered social media platforms will be deactivated on Ncell’s internet services. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” the statement read.
Ncell clarified, however, that platforms already registered in Nepal, including TikTok and Viber, will continue to function normally through its data network.
